The delicious flavors and health benefits of Pu-erh Tea are celebrated and well-known, and have been discussed at length on our blog. What many people don’t know, however, is that Pu-erh tea can also be used in several other amazing ways that aren’t often considered.
1. As an Organic Fertilizer
Rather than throwing out the tea leaves of already brewed tea, you can instead add them to your garden or potted plants to help them grow and prosper. Even after more than a dozen brews, when the tea leaves have peaked and their flavor starts to fade, Pu-erh tea still has plenty of minerals and nutrients that will greatly benefit your plants. Perhaps most importantly, this also very convenient and eco-friendly way to dispose of your tea leaves, while also fertilizing your plants.
2. As a Natural Dye
Another way to utilize your used tea leaves is as a natural pigment or dye. While many artificial dyes contain harmful chemicals, quality Pu-erh tea contains no chemicals whatsoever, and can therefore be safely used to dye cloth or any other materials a rich and natural color, as well as give them the naturally sweet aroma of Pu-erh.
3. As a Natural Cleaning Product
In leaf form, Pu-erh tea can be used to scrub grease or dirt off a surface. As a result, some people use it to clean their teaware, rather than using harmful, unnatural chemicals. In addition, tea water can also be effective as a cleansing agent. Some people even use it for their personal health and beauty. Bathing in tea water, or using it as a soap or shampoo is not only a natural way to clean the body, it also leaves you smelling great, and has the power to give you soft, smooth, glowing skin and hair.
